I had a wonderful, wonderful birthday!

Instead of the usual food and fun festivities, my siblings and I instead opted for a triathlon training session... which was, I admit, rather gruelling.  I hadn't expected it to be easy, so it was good for me to challenge myself to do something I've never done & never thought I'd be able to do.  My brother does tri's all the time, so this was a mere warm-up session for him.  My sisters and I, on the other hand, all have individual event strengths, but not all three, so it took us a long time to complete the course; but that was the main aim for today; just get through it, don't think about timing just yet.

...I just wish I ran like that. :-P

But despite the rigours of physical training, I was a happy bunny every minute of the day, thanks in no small part to the kind birthday wishes and e-gifts from [livejournal.com profile] mrs_roy (beautiful Chlark manip, I adore it),  [livejournal.com profile] ctbn60 (love the party hats!), [livejournal.com profile] grlmonday, [livejournal.com profile] phoenixnz, [livejournal.com profile] carcassi, [livejournal.com profile] mari2anne, [livejournal.com profile] amber611 and [livejournal.com profile] apeygirl for their amazing birthday posts, and [livejournal.com profile] easilyenraged, [livejournal.com profile] trinityr, [livejournal.com profile] purple_moon123, [livejournal.com profile] petrafan77, [livejournal.com profile] jlvsclrk[livejournal.com profile] meetin4, [livejournal.com profile] thekiller00, [livejournal.com profile] sue_denim, [livejournal.com profile] marisan90, [livejournal.com profile] malugargula, [livejournal.com profile] revdorothyl, [livejournal.com profile] kati_lc, [livejournal.com profile] kitmerlot1213, [livejournal.com profile] lonelywalker, [livejournal.com profile] pompeypearly_v2, [livejournal.com profile] mark_online, [livejournal.com profile] monicaop, [livejournal.com profile] jemmahawke and [livejournal.com profile] firebunny for the inspiring comments and messages.  My sincere apologies if I left you off the list; I really do appreciate each and every one of you, and I'm so privileged to have you all as friends.

Thank you all so much for the lurve!  Wishing you all the very best of good things also. :-)

*group smishes all of you at once* :-D

...and I've already received so many lovely birthday wishes that make me feel humbled, privileged and loved. I'll be back to thank you all properly later as I am currently on my way to the stadium to do some triathlon training. Yes, you heard right - my brother managed to convince my sisters and me to take part in the August Mini Triathlon!

We'll be swimming (400m), cycling (15km) and running (5km) to raise funds for the Leonard Cheshire Disability (...and personally to get rid of the extra blubber I have acquired around my belly and thighs). My main aim is to complete the course...I really don't care how long it takes, as long as I finish!

Wish me luck, people...and thanks so much for all the lovely birthday wishes and e-gifts! Will check back in once I'm done :-)

Now that the Duchess of Cambridge is finally in labour, I thought it might be fun to speculate on how the prim and proper Kate might fare whilst bringing the heir of the British throne into the world.

Here we go!

1. She won't tell Wills to f*ck off or growl "Don't touch me!" when he tries to comfort her mid-contraction

2. She won't moo like a cow or poo herself when the baby's crowning

3. She won't be wearing a £5 Primark nightie she has to chuck out afterwards due to it being bloodied beyond recognition

4. She won't be told by the midwives to "try and last a little longer" without pain relief

5. She won't stare at her reflection and cry "I look like sh*t!!!" because her hair & make-up team will be on 24-hr call

6. She won't be in a ward with other women and made to walk to the corridor for her food

7. She won't be sent home because she's not dilated enough

8. Shw won't get Will to run to Asda for more cheap undies because she's bled through the 10 pairs she brought

9. She won't be visited by Bounty on the ward after the baby comes (UK mamas know what I mean) ;-)

10. She won't wail "I'll never be thin again!" or show the kid photos of her pre-baby body whilst crying, "Look at me! I was hot before you came along!"

Feel free to add more in the comments! :-)

Glee star Cory Monteith (Finn Hudson) has been found dead in his Vancouver hotel room, confirmed by the Vancouver police and several news websites.  More information and messages from the Glee cast & crew can be found on [livejournal.com profile] ontd_glee

Cause of death is not yet confirmed, but he apparently died alone and foul play is not suspected.

He was 31 years old.

Heartbreaking news indeed.  My thoughts are with his family and loved ones.

Happy New Year 2013

I've been seeing a few Olympics posts on my f-list, and it reminded me that I need to do one of my own.  There have been so many wonderful moments of the Games, too many to mention; but I think I can compress mine down to a shortlist of about ten.

So in reverse order, here are my favourite London 2012 moments (minus the Opening Ceremony) so far, complete with links and images.  And no, it's not just full of Team GB Athletes, I was very unbiased.  Almost. ;-) Let me know if any of them are your best bits as well! :-D

Knowing our weather the way we do, British Airways flew a group of five Native Americans of the Yellow Bird Indian Dancers from Arizona over especially for the dance. They did their thing near Tower Bridge in a bid to influence the weather during the Olympics and keep the sun shining over the capital.

...and this time, I don't think they'll be able to fix it. :-(

I was finishing up some the next chapter of my Chlollie fic Sacred Words when I got Blue-Screened.  I tried to reboot, but all I got was a black screen with a 'try to reseat your memory' message on it.  Nothing else.  I'm gutted! :-(

Heading to PC world as soon as my mum can come sit with the kids to see if it's something they can repair, but I really think it's time I invested in a new computer.  This blows hard!!! *growls*

Very lucky I backed up all my work on Friday.  I did lose a bit of data; some editing on my Big Bang fic Agenda (sob!), half of Indelible, a chlarky oneshot chapter I was hoping to complete yesterday for [livejournal.com profile] apeygirl's birthday (Happy Birthday, April!!!), and a section of Sacred Words.  But all in all, it's not a teeth-gnashing amount of work. :-)

Fingers crossed for some sort of resolution soon. I can poach hubby's laptop from time to time, but I hate his keyboard.  Al the principal keys I make use of for writing are in the wrong place, like the quote marks and other punctuation.  It drives me mad!!! *growls*

I'll let you know how the trip to the PC-Doctor goes.  Wish me luck!!!

PS: Is LJ playing sillybuggers with anyone else?!?  Half my formatting - and text - keeps disappearing!!! :-O

ETA: 8pm - They fixed it!!! :)

It was the RAM memory that was leaking (?) There were some funky greenish stains on it. Cost me £30 for a new Memory Board plus £25 for the service to replace 2GB of the 3GB of the memory (the 1GB card was fine), and the old girl *seems* to be working as good as new. But then, it always works when you're still in the shop...:)

I've had it on for about an hour now, and all seems to be fine.  But Hubby said if I get Blue-Screened again, I should just get a new computer. Makes sense, since I've spent a total of £140 on repairs from the last time, and a new one costs from £300.

Suffice it to say I've had it up to my armpits with Dell, and will be going for a different brand when the time comes to put this baby out to pasture. :-)

Thanks for all the hugs, people!!!

Hello, F-list! *waves* :-D

Guess where I was last night?  Only at the PRIDE OF BRITAIN AWARDS, BABY!!! :-D

*British F-lister reaction: YAAAAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
*All Other F-Lister reaction: Whuh??????!?!?!?!

So what is the Pride of Britain Awards?  Please Google it; it's a worthy awards ceremony that rewards unsung heroes/regular people for acts of bravery.  It's attended by A-list celebs and royalty, and my boss got 4 tickets and gave them to 4 members of staff that he felt have made an impact on the business this year - and one of them was moi!  So I got to rub shoulders with some pretty important people - literally, in some cases! ;-)

I'll post some pictures when I get home. :-)
