“Chloe!”
Chloe lazily lifted her head from Oliver Queen’s lap and flashed
“Playing?”
Sighing, she glanced over to where the two dogs were rolling around in the grassy expanse of the Back Forty. They were enjoying a rare day out at the Kent Farm, having a relaxing picnic while Onyx took advantage of the space to run around. True to Clark’s words, Chloe saw her ginormous dog run at top speed and plant his huge paws squarely in the belly of
Oliver had been right about the little
Said ‘puppy’ barked loudly and careened into a sleeping
“
“That dog’s simply too big for his paws,” Clark grumbled as he went to rescue the golden retriever from the furry dark
Chloe sat up sharply as the memory of a much younger, stronger
Oliver, who’d been lying down silently all this time, lifted his head and frowned. “Superdog?” he queried.
She turned to him and smiled. “Oh, that’s right; you don’t know this story,” Chloe said.
“What story?”
“When we first met
“Yeah, that was years ago; long before your time, Oliver,”
She grinned widely. “Oh, yeah. He still had a bit of residual strength left, and he knocked the wind clean out of me!”
“Good thing you landed on your rear,”
“Hey!” she cried, incensed, and threw a scone at him which he promptly caught.
“Those were the good old days, weren’t they?” he went on reminiscently, biting into the pastry. “Remember the first time we ever climbed a tree together?”
“Definitely, because it was the first time you’d climbed a tree, ever!” she laughed. “All that superspeed and superstrength, and couldn’t shimmy up a tree-trunk!”
“Well, you know heights are not my thing, never have been,” he said defensively.
“True, which is why I didn’t harass you to go higher than the third branch,” she said, patting his hand.
“Yeah, and you showed off and went right to the very top, which still scared the bejeezus outta me,” he added, laughing.
“I guess I knew even then that you’d never let me fall,” she said fondly. “Oh – do you remember the first time you showed me around the farm?”
“You know I could never forget that, Chloe,” he said wistfully. “No one ever forgets his first kiss.”
Oliver, who had been glancing from one to the other since the entire exchange began, tightened his jaw and clenched his fist rather tightly, rapidly snuffing out the life of the hapless buttercups he’d been planning to put in Chloe’s hair. Initially, he’d been mildly amused by Clark’s obvious plan to freeze him out of the conversation by keeping the topic on events that had transpired before he ever came to Smallville, but now Clark was stepping over the boundary, talking diffidently about first kisses with Chloe and referring to her very lush behind.
He narrowed his eyes and kept silent as the selective conversation picked up steam.
“…yeah, but clearly your grand plan to kiss me just to get it out of the way didn’t work, because the following year I kissed you, remember?” he was saying.
Chloe blinked. “When was that?”
She snapped her fingers. “Right! And then there was another kiss in the file cabinet at Smallville Medical Centre…although, that one doesn’t really count, because it was a diversion…”
“No we never!” she denied.
“Boy, did we ever!” he countered.
“Dude, this is all in your head, because I’d definitely remember something like that,” she insisted.
Her eyes widened in shock. “Eeek! You’re telling me I was the mystery girl that Lana saw you kissing?”
“More than just ‘kissing’, as I remember it,” he said with a smirk.
Oliver scowled darkly. Okay, Clark had more than overstepped his mark this time…he was way over the line and charging forward, taking no prisoners on the way.
“Hey Chloe,” Oliver said smoothly, “remember that time we screwed for four hours straight, until you couldn’t walk?”
Silence descended on the sunny field for a full five seconds, save for a lone cricket that was chirping merrily some distance away. Even the dogs stopped their scuffling and pricked their ears up, turning to the three humans with odd expressions on their canine faces.
Chloe recovered first, a deep blush staining her cheeks. “Oliver Queen! That is so rude!” she exclaimed, a scandalised look on her face as she whacked him on the shoulder.
He grinned and leaned forward, taking her chin in his hand. “Not half as rude as the next thing I’m about to ask if you remember…”
“Er..I think I hear someone in trouble,”
“Be safe out there, okay?” Chloe said as he gathered his belongings. “We’ll walk
There was a whoosh, and a swift breeze, and
“You did that on purpose, didn’t you?” she accused.
He shrugged one shoulder. “Well he started it,” he said petulantly.
Her eyes widened and a hint of realisation lit up in them. “Oliver Queen, are you jealous of my childhood friend?” she asked teasingly.
He cast a furtive glance at a spot on the picnic blanket, and the humour in her eyes faded as she realised she’d struck a nerve. “Oh my God. You are, aren’t you?”
He sighed and arranged the mangled buttercups in a neat little row. “It’s just that…well…you and Clark, you’ve got all this history between you, and you can’t deny the years of unresolved sexual tension that crackled whenever you two were in a room together…”
She put a reassuring hand on his arm. “Oliver, that’s all in the past now, you know it is,” she insisted.
“Not for him, it isn’t,” he said grudgingly.
“Oh, don’t be silly,
Oliver looked at the woman he loved, and begged to differ. Chloe obviously thought that Clark wasn’t attracted to her, but he’d seen the way
Oliver stroked her hair and sighed. He’d never tell her, but every now and then, when she lay sleeping in his arms, he’d wonder if she ever thought about how her life would have been if she’d been intimate with Clark at least once…
“Besides, if we’re going down that route, how do you think it makes me feel knowing you’ve been to bed with my cousin?” she said gently.
Ouch. Low blow. Even so, he could see that whatever errant thoughts he was dealing with, she had to live with much worse. Every time he touched her, she’d no doubt wonder if he was making a mental comparison. Dimly, he realised that it was much better to deal with ‘what if’ than it was to live with an ex-girlfriend in your face who also happened to be a close relative.
He took her hands and looked squarely into her eyes. “Chloe, I can’t change the fact that I met Lois first,” he said. “We had what we had, and it was a good relationship. But I swear to you that I have never thought of her romantically since the first time I touched you. She’s as much my past as Jimmy is yours. Do you understand what I’m saying?”
She nodded quietly. “I think so.”
He smiled and cupped her face in his hands. “I love you, little one.”
She smiled back. “Ditto. Though not so much on the little where you’re concerned.”
He chuckled and pulled her forward, wrapping his arms around her in a deep hug. Her arms went around his waist, and she rested her head over his heart, and he just stroked her hair, feeling close to content.
He knew he’d never feel fully content until she said the words back. But he was more than grateful for the ways in which she showed him how she truly felt about him. He knew her reasons for not verbalising her feelings, and he wasn’t going to try and force or coax them out of her. Like everything else he’d been through with her, she’d say them when she was ready.
She shifted and lifted her head, looking at him with a predatory gleam in her eye.
“Do you remember the first time that I…” she leaned forward and completed her sentence in a breathy whisper that send tingles down his spine.
His breathing became harsh and his eyelids drifted shut at her words. “Oh, yeah,” he drawled. “Tiramisu and lobster salad comes to mind.”
“Ah, you do remember,” she giggled. “But I’m going to remind you anyway.”
“I was hoping you’d say that,” he said raggedly as she made her way down his body. “I’m a great fan of refresher courses.”
Chloe grinned and winked at him as she slowly pulled down the zipper on his jeans. Oliver lay back, his body thrumming in anticipation of the carnal pleasure she was about to bestow on him.
She always did things in her own time, he thought. It was just three little words. He would wait for them, for as long as it took.

"I loved this, jealous Clark, oblivious and very much in love Chloe and observant reflective Oliver (with a tinge of jealousy too) :D"
Hee! Talk about two dudes marking their territory! Clark was very naughty, I think , until Oliver showed him that he, Ollie, knows her in the biblical sense! :-D
Glad you liked it!

Date: 2010-07-23 08:04 am (UTC)LOL this was awesome, I love it, although I'm pretty sure it took Clark's mind to some pretty dirty places. probably why he rushed away, needed some alone time with Pam.

Not only Clark's mind. I'm gonna have to write a fic of that 4-hour marathon session! ;-)

Date: 2010-07-23 12:33 pm (UTC)Gotta love a jealous Clark. The guy had the girl loving him for years and nothing and now that she found her very own hero he realizes that she's awesome. I don't blame him, I mean, she's Chloe - his best friend, secret keeper, shoulder to lean on. It was easier to see her as a friend than something more. Less complicated, but I am so happy to see that he finally saw the light =)
Oliver, well he was Oliver. Impossible not to love him and his back-off-super-boy-this-sidekick-is-mine. He's still waiting for the I love you, but now he's almost there and he can wait - and I can breath, because I was worried Clark would do something and Chloe would back off him and now that I saw this story I know that they will work out and I am so glad.
I really loved it. *runs to read love for realsies and see what Oliver is up to now.*

I know, so inappropriate of Clark. You don't talk about someone's girl in an intimate way like that. Wrong, wrong, wrong.
Trust Ollie to sort him out good and proper!
Glad you liked it, Sly!

BEST. COMEBACK-LINE. EVER!!!
And you know Oliver wouldn't even blush to say that in order to shoo Clark away from his woman. Ha!
Then you deftly move from hilarity to sweet tenderness:
"It was just three little words. He would wait for them, for as long as it took."
Awww, how wonderful is Ollie, having the patience and wisdom to wait for someone as awesome as Chloe. *huggles him*
If this is the sequel, then I definitely can't wait until you finish "Realsies"- and yay for knowing that there will be a happy ending! Bravo, Dee!

He's a gorgeous Golden hunk who I love to bits. I never knew I'd have so much fun writing him, but he's fast outpacing Clark in the hero sweepstakes where I'm concerned! :-)
"If this is the sequel, then I definitely can't wait until you finish "Realsies"- and yay for knowing that there will be a happy ending! Bravo, Dee!"
Oh, this is just one of the sequels. There are 2 more oneshot sequels already written, titled, and ready to go - but I have to finish Realsies before they can go up. No skipping ahead this time! :-(
So glad you liked it, Dawnie, and thanks for the lurvely review! *huggles*

Date: 2010-08-31 03:32 pm (UTC)Good for Oliver for putting Clark in his place because Clark was deliberately keeping Oliver out of the conversation and saying extremely inappropriate things.
And I love that Chloe doesn't know that Clark's going through all of these unrequited feelings for her. Shoes on the other foot now Kent--how does it feel??!!
I also like that Chloe brought up Oliver's past relationship with Lois and just how uncomfortable it makes her sometimes. And I'm glad that he understands how difficult it it for her to tell him she loves him--they understand each other so well :)
Lastly, I feel badly for poor Shelby--she is an older dog who needs to rest and not get jumped on by a young pup. I have no doubt that Onyx is just playing, but he needs to realize his own strength :):)
A lovely story :)
