Ahoy there, shipmates! :-)

Remember that little Clex ficlet that I was inspired to write by [livejournal.com profile] ctbn60's gorgeous manip?  Well, I decided to flesh it out a bit and give you an idea of how Clark and Lex ended up in flagrante in the first place.  Carol kindly created another banner for me, and within minutes, Wanted began to take shape.

Here's Part 1 of 2, like before.  Hope y'all like it, and many thanks once again to Carol for her super-amazing banner!  Love it to bits, but had to put it under a cut as it's hella sexay and there is some skin showing; no visible dangly bits, though. :-)

Enjoy!  And as always, would appreciate your feedback. :-P

Wanted

I wanna kiss you, make you feel alright
I’m just so tired to share my nights
I wanna cry and I wanna love
But all my tears have been used up
On another love…

-         Another Love, by Tom Odell

Part 1

“A little bird tells me you’re not feeling too good right now.”

Clark jumped, clearly startled at the sudden intrusion.  He looked towards him and Lex managed to make out a scowl on the young man’s face as he saw him silhouetted in his bedroom doorway.

“What are you doing here, Lex?” he demanded.  “I don’t recall inviting you onto my property.”

“It wasn’t too difficult to work an open door, Clark,” Lex casually replied.  He leaned on the doorframe and raised a bemused brow.  “If you don’t want people walking in like they own the place, you might want to think about investing in some locks and deadbolts.”

Clark fixed him with a brittle stare.  “Very funny.”

“Thanks.  Seriously, though, I just came by to talk to you.”

“Well, you made a wasted trip, because I don’t want you here,” Clark said sullenly.  “Please leave.”

Lex rested a hand on his chest and sighed dramatically.  “Ouch, Clark.  I drove all this way, and you don’t want to talk to me?”

“I don’t want to talk to anyone right now.”

“Which is why you’re sitting in the dark, banging a ball repeatedly against a wall; I can see that,” Lex replied.  “However, you’ve been through a lot these past few weeks, and it hasn’t been at all easy on you.  I hear your biological father froze you out – quite literally – for four whole weeks.”

Clark’s jaw hardened.  “Yeah, well, he’s always been a sick bastard.”

“And then to return from that to find your girlfriend happy with another man…” Lex shook his head.  “You should talk to someone about this, Clark.”

“I don’t want to.”

“Not even Lana?”

Especially not Lana,” Clark growled, his scowl deepening.  “She and I have said all we’re ever going to say to each other.  She’s gone, for good.”

“And how many times have I heard that one before?” Lex challenged, sitting on the edge of the bed.

“It’s different now,” Clark replied stonily.  “She’s not coming back this time.”

“What makes you so sure?”

“Because I wouldn’t have her back even if she did return.”

“And why’s that?”

“Because she preferred him to me, that’s why,” Clark finally admitted through gritted teeth.  “Because her four weeks with him were better than all the years we’ve spent knowing each other.”

“And how does that make you feel?” Lex asked, shucking off his shoes and sitting back against the headboard.

“What’s it to you?” he replied rudely.  “You’re only here to rub salt in my already very raw wounds.”  He paused, and then narrowed his green eyes into tiny slits.  “Or have you finally decided you’ve had enough of the alien in your midst and come to cart me away to one of your many facilities?”

“If I’d wanted to do that, you wouldn’t have seen me coming, Clark,” he said softly.  “I told you when I finally figured out the truth about you that your secret was safe with me, and I meant it.  I’m here as a friend only.  So…” he settled down beside Clark, folded his legs and rested his arms behind his head.  “What’s really bugging you?”

Clark sighed and stared blankly at the wall.  “Lana lived with my evil doppelganger for a month and had no idea he wasn’t me,” he said quietly.

Lex pondered this briefly.  “Did they have sex?” he finally asked.

Clark closed his eyes.  “Several times, I’m told.”

“I don’t get it,” Lex replied.  “No matter how physically alike you were, there’s no way you two could make love the same.  How could she mistake his touch for yours?”

“Because we… Lana and I, we’ve never actually had sex,” he confessed.

Lex frowned.  “Of course you have.  You two got together just after graduation–”

“When I was fully stripped of my powers,” Clark clarified.  “Yet another dickish move by my dear old dad.”

“Oh.  Oh!” Lex said, surprised.  “So you’ve never been intimate with her with your powers?”

“Just once,” he replied, “…but she had abilities at the same time.”

“Huh.  So, never when you’re both…well, normal?  As in, you with your powers, and her without?”

He shook his head.  “Nope.”

Why not?”

“I was worried I might lose control and hurt her,” he confessed.

Lex nodded, his expression thoughtful.  “Well that explains how the other you was able to fool her,” he mused.  “But I have to ask: other than those two times, did you ever try to have sex with your girlfriend?”

“I couldn’t take that risk with Lana’s life, Lex.  It was safer not to do anything at all.”

“Jesus, no wonder she was always so tense,” Lex remarked.

Clark shot him a filthy look, and he had the good grace to look contrite.  “Sorry.  So, this other Clark; he had all your abilities, too?”

“Mmm-hmm.”

“And somehow he seemed to make her happy.”

“Very happy.  The best four weeks of her life, in fact.”

“Wow.”  Lex smiled.  “That good, huh?”

“Knock it off, Lex,” he growled.  “I can do without your crude remarks for one evening.  If you’re only here to make fun of me, then leave.”

“I’m not, I promise,” he said.  “Sorry.”

“How could she not know it wasn’t me?” Clark said, genuinely perplexed.

“I think she did know,” Lex said thoughtfully.

He blinked.  “Huh?”

“The minute he took her in his arms, she must have had an inkling,” Lex replied.  “The second he took her to bed, she had to have known for sure.”

“But how?”

Lex shot him a look.  “Because you never did, genius.”

Realisation dawned.  “So the indicator that I wasn’t myself was that I genuinely wanted to have sex with my girlfriend,” Clark said slowly.  “Guess I can see how fucked up that actually is.”

“I remember when you two fell out a few years ago, when she was researching the spaceship; she said she felt like you never really wanted her.”

“I did want her, I just…” he sighed wearily.  “Once I’d gotten my powers back, it became awkward. I started fending off her advances. She thought maybe getting shot and nearly dying had affected me, somehow, but I just didn’t want to hurt her.”

“And you wouldn’t have.”

“How do you know?” Clark asked tartly.  “I didn’t have any idea what might happen, and I couldn’t take that risk with Lana’s life!”

“You take that risk every day, Clark, when you shake someone’s hand, or give them a hug, or even when you’re throwing criminals around,” Lex pointed out.  “You already know how to control yourself and keep your abilities in check.  Something was holding you back from going all the way with Lana, something else; and you need to find out what that is.”

“So, what, you think I didn’t love her enough?” he said incredulously.

“I think you wanted to love her; but if you really did, you’d have given it a try, Clark; that’s what guys do when they really, really want to be with someone,” he said gently.  “It’s always awkward the first time, powers or no powers.”

“I did want her,” Clark insisted.  “She just…never wanted me, not really.  Not until Bizarro came along, anyway.”

“Did you at least try to work it out afterwards?”

“There was nothing left to save,” he said soberly.  “She couldn’t forgive me for losing the one person that actually made her really happy, and I couldn’t forgive her for sleeping with someone else.  Guess you were right, Lex… neither one of us really wanted the other enough to try.”

Lex gave his shoulder a squeeze.  “It just means she wasn’t The One.  You’ll find the right person someday.”

Clark snorted and folded his arms.  “You’re just saying that to try and make me feel better.”

“No, I’m saying that because it’s true,” Lex insisted.  “You’ll meet someone that’s right for you and fall crazy, head over heels in love with them; so much so that you’ll wonder why you spent so much time with the wrong person in the first place.”

“Whether that’ll actually happen or not remains to be seen,” Clark said wryly.  “But thanks for trying to cheer me up, Lex.  I appreciate you coming over tonight, and I apologise for being rude to you.”

Lex smiled.  “No apology necessary.  And hey; I was emotionally stung by Lana, too, so I know exactly what you’re going through.” He gave Clark’s shoulder a reassuring squeeze.  “You’re gonna be fine, Clark.  Trust me.”

“Yeah, eventually,” Clark replied despondently.  “Until then, I’ll remain unwanted and unloved.”

“Don’t be silly, Clark.  There are people who love you.”

He snorted.  “Like my Mom, yeah.”

“And people who want you, too,” Lex added with a laugh.

“Oh, yeah?” Clark challenged.  “Like who?”

“Well, you don’t have to look further than Chloe for a start,” he pointed out.  “She’s been sweet on you for years, and she’s clearly more than just a friend to you.”

Clark gave it some thought, then he just shrugged.  “I don’t know, Lex,” he finally sighed, resting his head on Lex’s shoulder.  “Maybe I just don’t know what I want.”

“Or maybe you do,” Lex said lowly.  “You just haven’t wised up to it yet.”

Poor Lana always looked like she was walking around with everything clenched, didn't she? Poor girl!

Working on the next chapter as we speak, hopefully I can get it posted over the weekend. Thanks so much for your kind comments, Trinity! *hugs*

Ha-ha! It's true, though; Lex was always championing Clark's other relationships a bit too strongly, probably because he was concealing his own burgeoning affection for the young man. Well, not any more! This time, they're both gonna get exactly what they want. :-)

Many thanks for commenting, Carol, and soooooooooooo much love for the amazing banner you gifted me with! There are so many tender Clex moments woven into the fabric of the picture, that swell of Clark's hip over his jeans just kills, me, and the sheer look of possessiveness in Lex's eyes as he has Clark's head in his lap is just...GUH! It's like he's saying, "Back off, bitches - this ass is mine!" :-D I also love the way Clark's pressing Lex closer to him when they're both nekkid, as well. Amazing, simply amazing, I just can't stop looking at it. :-)

Thanks again, I deeply appreciate it! *smishes you* :-)

Of all the hogwash show forced us to swallow, I still can't get over them having Clana continue after the events of this episode. I mean, really show?
