Chapter 4

Did we just say our I love you’s?

The question hung in the air between them for several silent seconds.

It had all happened so fast.  Chloe literally had to backtrack in her head to remind herself of the conversation.

God, I love you, woman.

Well, thank you.  I love you, too…

“Yes,” she breathed.  “I think we did.”

“We definitely did.”

“Mmm-hmm.”

“Mmm.”  He paused.  “And?”

“And what?”

“Are you okay?”

She frowned.  “Of course I’m okay, why wouldn’t I be?”

“Well, we um…just said we loved each other…” he began hesitantly.

She nodded, even though he couldn’t see her.  “Yeah, and…?” she pressed.

And?” he echoed.  “Chloe, this is where your Patented Freak-Out usually makes its scheduled appearance.  Where is it?”

She shrugged.  “Who knows, who cares?” she said flippantly.  “I love you.”

“I heard.  And I love you, too.  And you’re not freaking out?”

“Nope.”

“Why not?” he said sounding genuinely puzzled.

She snorted.  “Because I’m not freaked out, duh!”

“She’s not freaked out,” he said in amazement.  Chloe rolled her eyes and sighed.

“Oliver…it sounds as though you’re freaking out because I’m not freaking out,” she pointed out gently.  “Are you freaked out?”

He sighed.  “Looks like it,” he admitted soberly.  “I didn’t mean to alarm you, honey, and I’m not freaking out because I love you, because that’s fine; I just…” he sighed.  “I thought you’d either be a little bit more enthusiastic about it or…well, to be honest, running for the hills, like you always do when your relationships go through a transition.”

She smiled.  “I’m not running anywhere, Oliver, except perhaps into your arms,” she reassured him warmly.  “I love you.  It feels right.”

“And you’re definitely okay with that?” he asked dubiously.

She sighed in exasperation.  “Yes!

“Then why so mellow?” he insisted.  “It’s a little bit quiet over there.”

“Um…yeah, there’s a reason for that,” she hedged, and he cursed loudly.

“I knew it,” he said grimly.  “You are freaked out.”

“No, I’m not, I promise you!”

“Then why are you so quiet, huh?”

“Because I---” she paused and sighed in resignation.  “I promise, I’ll explain everything, but for now I just want---”

“Okay, that’s it.”  She heard a rummaging sound from the next room and sat up in bed, alarmed.  “Oliver, what are you doing?”

“What does it sound like?” he replied shortly.  “I’m packing my stuff up and coming home.”

Her eyes widened.  “Right now?”

“Yes, right now,” he said with grim determination.  “There’s something you’re not telling me, and I want to know what it is.”

“But I told you, I’m fine!” she insisted.

It fell on deaf ears.  “…If I get a really fast far, I can be at the airport in half an hour,” he mused.  “That’ll be just enough time to catch the Red Eye back to---”

“Okay Ollie, stop,” she said firmly.  “I told you, there’s a reason why I’m so quiet.”

“Yeah, you did,” he said curtly.  “A reason which you’ve bluntly refused to share.”

“Okay, I will!” she said, exasperated.  “I had something delivered to your room this afternoon; it’s on the bed.”

“Huh?” he asked, sounding puzzled.  “What does a present on my bed have to do with why you’re being so quiet?”

She smiled.  “Everything.  Go on; go into the bedroom.”

“Chloe, what did you do - set up a video link?” he asked, his voice rife with excitement.  “Cool!  Now we can take phone sex to a whole new level, I love it.”

“Oh, I did you one better,” she drawled, running her finger over the ruffles on her neckline as her body thrummed in anticipation.  Oliver’s voice got louder as he got closer and closer to the connecting door.

“Oh, God,” he groaned as the door opened.  “You didn’t get me a blow-up doll, did you?   Because I have no intention of getting it on with a plastic piece of--”

He stopped mid-sentence, his brown eyes widening as he came face to face with her.  She poised coquettishly in the middle of his bed and flashed him a shy grin.

“Hi,” she said, her cheeks tingling with excitement.  “Um…surprise?!?”

Oliver’s jaw hung open for several seconds.  The cellphone that had been in his hand slid through his fingers and fell unceremoniously to the floor.

“Hey!” she cried as he stalked towards her, her eyes on the screen of the forgotten phone which he had neglected to shut off.  “That’s a really expensive piece of -aieeeee!!!”

She squealed and suddenly found herself whizzing through the air as Oliver lifted her off the bed and straight into his arms, holding her tightly to him.  Her legs went around him as did her arms and she buried her face in his neck, inhaling the warm lime-and-woodsy scent of his shower gel that was now so familiar to her.

“You’re here,” he said in a daze, leaning back and staring into her eyed.  “My God, you’re really here!”

“I am,” she said with a smile.  “I wanted to surprise you.”

“Well, you certainly did that,” he laughed, stroking her hair with trembling fingers.  “How did you---?”

“Karenna let me in,” she explained.  “She recognised me from the pictures.”

“Karenna, huh?” he said with a smile.  “Did you tell her to keep it a secret?  Because I saw her earlier and she was acting all cagey, but looking pretty smug at the same time.”

She blushed.  “Yeah, I did.  I told her you didn’t know I was here, and she got everyone on the team to keep my confidence.”

“I should have known,” he mused, and threaded a hand in her hair.  “Come here, you.”

She grinned and leaned forward and their lips met in a sweet, tender kiss that reflected the words they’d exchanged earlier.  She clung to him, her tongue stroking his daringly as her hands clutched his head through his hair.

After a long while he lifted his head and stared at her with eyes full of emotion.

“I love you, Chloe,” he said, his voice shaking.  “So much.”

“I love you, too, Ollie,” she replied.  “More than I’ve ever loved anyone.  And look--” she held out her arms wide.  “No freak-out!”

His warm brown eyes bored into her hazel ones with a searching look, and she sighed and shook her head.

“If you’re looking for signs of doubt or uncertainty, you’re not gonna find any,” she said softly, holding his face in her hands and returning his intense gaze.  “I love you.  And it makes me the happiest woman in the world to know that you feel the same way about me.”

He nodded and smiled, his eyes glistening with unshed tears.  “Ditto.  I’m like…on Cloud Nine right now.  Kiss me again.”

She obliged, unravelling her legs from around his waist and lowering them to the floor.  He relaxed his hold on her as she broke the kiss and sat on the edge of the bed, wrapping her arms around his waist and contentedly resting her head on his belly.  His hand gently stroked her hair, and she smiled.

“It’s so good to hold you again,” she sighed, rubbing her cheek against the soft fabric of his robe.

“I still can’t believe you’re here,” he whispered in a daze as his fingertips teased her scalp.  “I’ve been missing you like crazy.”

A solid firmess swelled close to her cheek, swiftly proving his point.

“Yeah, I see,” she chuckled.  “Or rather, I don’t see.  I’ll just get this out of the way, and…” Deftly she untied the sash of his robe and the sides fell away, revealing him in all his glory.

“…Ah, that’s better,” she said triumphantly, her voice low and sultry as she reached up and wrapped her fingers around his straining length.   Slowly she squeezed and slid her palm along the hard length of his cock, making him groan hoarsely.  His warm flesh branded her hand with heat, and a slick drop of moisture gathered at the tip, glistening invitingly.

She glanced up at him and smiled, feeling smug as the thrumming length in her hand twitched in expectation.  Clearly he couldn’t hold out much longer, and neither could she.  Slowly, she leaned forward licked the bead of moisture away before sucking the plump tip of his erection into her mouth.

Oliver hissed and his knees buckled slightly as she lowered her head on him, taking him in deep.  His hand tightened in her hair and he began a slow thrust in and out of her mouth, trying to maintain an easy rhythm.

But she wasn’t in the mood for slow and easy.  She moved her head even lower and increased the suction in her mouth, sucking him hard.   Her fingers curled tightly into the firm flesh of his buttocks, her nails leaving small crescent shaped patterns on his skin.  Oliver groaned and swore and cursed as his hard-won control rapidly slipped away from him.  Following her lead, he fisted his hand in her hair and thrust as hard as he dared.

A heady sense of feminine empowerment spread through her entire body and pooled in her loins.  Oliver Queen was one of the most sought-after bachelors in the United States, and the knowledge that she could reduce him to a sweaty, shuddering mass of need turned her on so fiercely she could feel her moisture dampening her thighs.

Oliver’s own thighs trembled beneath her hands and the muscles tightened and seized up as a powerful orgasm tore through him.  He roared with abandon, his earthy essence filling her mouth as he came hard.  Chloe swallowed him down, keeping up the suction until he was utterly and completely spent.

His eyes drifted shut and he sank to his knees in front of her, gasping for breath.  Chloe wrapped her arms around him, stroking his hair and his back as he continued to breathe heavily.  He lifted his arms and held on to her limply for a few minutes, finally grasping her shoulders and leaning her slightly away from him so he could see her face.  She smiled.

“How’s that for a proper welcome?” she drawled, raising a querying brow.  He answered by cupping the back of her head with his hand and pulling her to him for a deep, searching kiss that went on and on and on.

Eventually he lifted his head and gazed at her.  “I love you,” he whispered, his thumb stroking her cheek.

“I love you too,” she replied without hesitation.  Her heart soared with pure emotion as the enormity of their words finally sunk in.

They loved each other.  It was a simple, honest, shared truth; a statement of fact.  And like the rest of their relationship, no grandiose posturing or conventionality had been necessary to warrant the declaration; it had fallen seamlessly into place, all on its own.

Oliver smiled, and the thumb that had been stroking her cheek brushed her lower lip tenderly.  “That was…simply amazing.”

She blushed.  “I’ve been thinking about doing that all day,” she confessed.

He gave her a leery grin.  “Woman, there aren’t enough hours in a day to do all the things to you that I’ve been thinking,” he chuckled.  “But I’ll start with what I said I would do as soon as I saw you again.”

“Oh? And what might that be?” she said with wide eyes, feigning ignorance.  “I…forget.”

Oliver grinned and lowered her back to the mattress.  “Hey – no problem,” he said amiably as he pushed her silky green nightgown up to her waist and parted her thighs, draping her legs over his shoulders.  “More than happy to refresh your memory.”

Chloe’s giggles instantly morphed into a sigh of pleasure as his tongue stroked her sensitive flesh, probing her slick entrance.  Her arms went above her head and she clutched hold of the wrought iron railings as she was swept up in a maelstrom of erotic desire.  Her body pulsed and tingled as Oliver caressed her hips with his fingertips and teased her clit with light flicks of his tongue.

Oh yes, she thought, writhing in ecstasy as he drove her to the pinnacle of pleasure and beyond.  Now she remembered.
