Right!  Next on the Chlollie fanfic rotation is the Funsies Series.  Anyone out there remember it?  Anyone??  Anyone??  Bueller???  It hasn't been that long, has it?!?  ;-)

Let's see...we left off with Chloe and Oliver getting engaged in the Watchtower in the presence of all the members of the Justice League, including a near-distraught Bart. Oliver had nearly perished in a particularly dangerous mission, prompting Chloe to finally tell him that she loves him.  Aww.

Anyway, we join our favourite blondes about a year into their marriage...and one of them is beginning to get a wee bit broody.  You'll find out who soon enough. ;-)

Enjoy!  Feedback, as always, ensures I keep writing this stuff.  Just sayin'. :-P

Awesome Banner of Awesomeness by the Amazing [livejournal.com profile] ellashy.  Isn't it beautiful?  I would write fanfic just for her, seriously.  Thanks a million for yet another masterpiece, Ella! :-D

Enough rambling.  On with the show!

CHLOE:         Listen buddy, you got the ‘I Love You’ and the engagement within five minutes of each other.  Don’t push your luck!
OLIVER:        *pouts* Fine.  But somewhere along the line, I want the 2.3 kids and the little white picket fence as well.  Just sayin’.

Chapter 1

“Oh, honey?” Oliver called to his wife.

“Yeah?”

“How would you like to liven up your Saturday afternoon?”

Chloe stuck her head around the door and smiled.  “You mean liven it up more than we already have this morning?”

Oliver chuckled.  “Yes, but not with what you’re thinking.”

She narrowed her eyes at him and proceeded to sashay over to his side.

“Now, what could possibly be more lively than you and I twined around each other like amorous vines?” she challenged sultrily as her arms went around his waist.

He grinned and tilted her chin upward for a kiss.  “How about babysitting a rambunctious pair of two-year old twins?” he murmured against her lips.

Chloe’s eyes lit up in delight, the kiss forgotten.  “Sloane and Skye Mackenzie?  Hell, yes!  How soon can we get there, and how long do they need us for?”

“Hey, slow down…slow down,” he said with a chuckle.  “They’re not expecting us until two o’clock this afternoon, and they’re hoping we can pull an all-nighter so they can go see a show and spend the night at a hotel.”

“More than happy to.  They need as many nights off as they can get, especially now that the girls have hit the terrible twos.  Plus, with their king-sized garden and grounds, it’ll be great for Onyx.  Won’t it, boy?”

At the mention of his name, their enormous dog lifted his head and woofed loudly before bounding across the floor towards them.

“Yes, buddy — we’re going to the Mackenzie’s for the night!” she said excitedly, rubbing his ears. She turned to Oliver.  “Where’s his travel mat?”

“Bedroom, behind the dresser.”

“Thanks.”  She kissed his cheek and went to their room to get said mat, and presumably to pack their overnight bag.

As soon as she was out of sight, Oliver took his cell out of his pocket and left a message for the twins’ father.

“Joel?  It’s Oliver,” he said.  “Good news: we can stay overnight, so I’ve booked you and Molly into the Honeymoon Suite at the Majestic.  The girls are in good hands, so just relax and enjoy your anniversary.”

He shut off the phone and smiled to himself.  Chloe was always delighted to see the twins, so when Joel had mentioned that his anniversary was coming up, Oliver had immediately volunteered their babysitting services.  The Mackenzies had actually found a sitter for the evening, but Oliver had upped the ante by offering an entire night of free service from both him and Chloe.  Throw in a night at a five-star hotel, and it was an offer no sane parents of toddlers would ever be able to refuse.

Of course, Oliver had an ulterior motive.  He and Chloe had now been married almost a year, and he was seriously yearning for the sweet pitter-patter of tiny feet.  He’d always thought women were the ones who got broody; biological clock, and what not.  Unfortunately, he was married to the one person on earth who was quite happy to let her biological clock tick loudly away; which created something of a quandary for a man who was desperate to start a family.

He listened to the sounds of her scurrying around their bedroom, and sighed.  So Chloe wasn’t quite as sold on the idea of kids as he was…not yet, anyway.  He knew that the more opportunities she had to interact with children, the more her resolve on the matter was likely to weaken.  So, whilst a part of him felt a tad guilty at resorting to his old tricks and plans to get them on babysitting duty for the night, it wouldn’t be quite so bad if it ended up yielding the result he wanted.

***

“Again!  Again!” squealed Skye, flapping her arms like a bird.

Oliver complied and threw the child high up in the air, catching her deftly as she descended into his arms.

“Not too high, honey!” Chloe chided from across the room where she sat reading to Sloane.  “Not unless you want her dinner all over you.”

Oliver grimaced.  “Good point.”  He set the child down, and she immediately whined and demanded more, stretching up on her tiptoes and reaching for him.

He shook his despite her pitiful protests.  “No, Skye; no more.   You’ve just had your dinner.”

Skye’s pretty face crumpled, and she let out a dismal wail.  Oliver immediately weakened began to pick her up, but Chloe fixed her eyes on him and gave a stern shake of the head.

“No, Skye,” she said gently, but firmly.  “Playtime is done.”

As expected, Skye immediately ceased crying and plopped her thumb in her mouth.  “Pony ride?” she suggested hopefully, turning away from Chloe and fixing her large blue eyes on him.

Oliver scratched his head and turned helplessly to his wife. “Come on, Chloe.  I can’t say no to those eyes; she looks like Puss in Boots in from Shrek!”

“Oh, she knows what she’s doing,” Chloe warned with a sly grin.  “That’s why she’s not trying it with me, she knows you’re a soft touch!”

He shrugged.  “I can’t help it.  She’s got the puppy-dog look down to a science.”

Chloe smiled and shook her head.  With a sigh, she walked over and knelt down to Skye’s level.

One pony ride, that’s all,” she said sternly.  “And then it’s time for your bath, okay?”

The child nodded happily, and Chloe hoisted her and her sister onto Oliver’s back for a slow trot around the living room.

“You’re such a natural, Chloe,” he said as he crawled past her with the squealing twins on his back.  “You’d be a great Mom.”

Chloe scoffed.  “Don’t even go there.”

“I’m serious,” he insisted.  “Look how good you are with them.  Even at this young age, they know not to mess with you.”

“Whereas you, on the other hand, get played every time,” she said with a smirk.  She glanced at her watch, and then leaned over and gave him a quick kiss.  “I’ll go get the bath ready.”

Oliver watched her go with a wistful expression on his face.  Whenever he broached the subject of children, she always seemed to find a way to extricate herself from the conversation.

It had been a long time since they’d had a really serious discussion on the subject; in fact, the first time had been the day the twins were born, before they were even officially dating.

***

“Do you want to have kids?” he’d asked suddenly.

She stiffened.  “Huh?”

“Someday,” he added hastily.  “Sometime in the future.  I mean, all women want children someday, don’t they?  It’s just a general question…I guess with my colleague having twins today…” he trailed off, hoping he hadn’t blown his cover and revealed too much of his desires and expectations.

Chloe shrugged.  “I always thought I wanted kids; now I’m not so sure.”

“Because of your father leaving you?”

“That’s a significant part of it,” she admitted.  “The last thing I want to do is make the same mistakes with my child that my father made with me.”

“You’d never do that, Chloe.”

She gave him a little smile.  “Thanks.  Then of course, there’s the issue of my Mom’s mental illness…”

“Chloe, you can’t let fear of the unknown keep you from living your life,” he said gently.  “No pregnancy comes with a guarantee of safety.”

“That may be, but it would be irresponsible of me to bring a child into this world if there’s an increased risk of any congenital defects,” she pointed out. “Not to mention my own meteor infection.”

“Which disappeared well over a year ago, and hasn’t been seen since.”

“That doesn’t mean it isn’t there,” she said stubbornly.  “And the possibility of passing it on, or some variant of it, is a risk I’m not prepared to take.”

They drove along silently for a while.  After about a minute, he spoke.

“What if you did get pregnant?” he queried softly.  “What then?”

She smiled, her eyes warming at the thought.  “Then I’d love that child no matter what, and do everything in my power to make sure that they have the best life and the best Mom ever.”

Oliver grinned.  “I think you’d make a great Mom,” he said.  Then hastily added, “Just think of the games of Trivial Pursuit you and that kid would enjoy.”

***

The main cause of her fear was the possibility of passing on either her or her mother’s meteor mutation to her child; and with Moira Sullivan having recently passed away without ever regaining lucidity, Chloe’s resolve on the matter had all but strengthened.

But Oliver knew a thing or two about fear, himself.  And the First Rule he applied to fear was never to live in it.  It was the Rule that gave him the courage to jump off skyscrapers without a harness on a daily basis.

It was the Rule he applied when he faced down angry gun-toting criminals with nought but a bow and arrow in his hands, and emerged triumphant.

And it was that same Rule that had given him the impetus to use any and all methods at his disposal to get his wife to fall in love with him, even when she was so dead set against the idea that it actually made her physically ill.

“Giddy-up, horsey!” the girls squealed, jarring him back to the present.

“No more horsey now,” he said, trying to sound firm and authoritative.  He flattened himself on the ground, and the girls rolled off in a fit of giggles, laughing loudly as he picked one up under each arm.  “Bath time!”

Yay, you remembered! :-D

"One tiny criticism - no smut for at least the last 3 stories - I miss the smut please bring it back :-D"

Curses, my evil plan has been rumbled! *hides face* I apologise. The trouble with writing smut in so many stories featuring the same couple is that there's only so many ways to change it up, and I worry all their nookie will start to sound the same. But as you've made a specific request, I'll try and write some into this story for ya. No promises, but I'll try. :-)

Glad you like so far!

Totally see where Chloe is coming from, but she has a great support system in Ollie. I don't see her not wanting to have a family with Ollie. I do see her researching to her heart's content all her issues before taking the plunge though.
Thank you for the update. Love this series.

So cute! Love Ollie when he's up to his tricks! Especially when Chloe's response to babysitting was "Hell, yes! How soon can we get there, and how long do they need us for?" Nice callback to Ollie's conversation with Chloe about having children in Love for Realsies (I love that story, btw). Looking forward to the next chapter.

Thanks! I've been longing to write this story ever since I first wrote that chapter all those years ago. I was so sure of where I was taking Chlollie in this story that I wrote the sequel long before I even finished Realsies! :-)

Looking forward to the next chapter
