Chapter 3

Chloe hummed to herself as she got ready for her date.  Home-cooked dinners were something she’d had so few of growing up, as her father had been one-hundred percent reliant on microwaveable ready-meals.  The ever-shrewd Mrs Kent had taken to cooking for her whenever she stopped by the Farm, and she and Clark always had a great time assisting in the preparation - even if she was always stuck on salad duty.  She never minded, though; cooking was more Clark’s strength, not hers.

She wondered what he was making for her tonight.  Hopefully it would be her favourite fettuccini alfredo, but the truth was she’d love anything cooked by Clark’s hands.

Or maybe she just loved Clark’s hands, period.

She smiled as she brushed her hair, drawing the bristles through until it gleamed.  Then she put the finishing touches to her make-up and did a quick inventory of her overnight bag, making sure she had enough panties to last for the next four days.

On the spur of the moment she added a matching set of bra and panties in scarlet lace, giggling because she knew she probably wouldn’t get to wear it for very long.

She was so preoccupied that she didn’t hear the key in the lock, or the door to the dorm room open.  Then a brittle voice punctured the silence.

“Going somewhere, Chloe?”

Startled, Chloe spun around and came face to face with a steely-faced Lana.

“Lana!  Hey,” she exclaimed, a guilty flush burning her cheeks.  “What brings you here?”

Lana raised a brow and took a measured step forward.  “Last time I checked, we were still roommates.”

Chloe mentally gave herself a shake.  “Right; I meant, what brings you here so early,” she corrected.  “I thought you had a group tutorial tonight.”

“I blew it off.”

Chloe frowned.  “Lana, that’s not like you.  Is everything alright?”

“I wouldn’t say things were fine, but they’re not.  I had more…pressing matters to attend to,” she replied, absently trailing a hand along Chloe’s bed.  “Speaking of which…” she fixed Chloe with a hard stare.  “Have you seen my boyfriend lately?”

“Clark?” Chloe replied, trying to sound innocent.  “Uh, no; not since yesterday.”

Lana’s mouth tightened.  “I see.”

Chloe held her breath as Lana’s fingers crept higher on the bedspread until it rested on top of her travel case.

“You never answered my earlier question,” she said, fishing out Chloe’s scarlet lace panties with a finger.  “Where are you off to?”

“I…never said I was going anywhere,” she replied vaguely.  At least, she hoped she sounded vague, but from the way Lana was staring at her, she might as well have the word TART! emblazoned on her forehead.

Lana gave a sharp little laugh.  “Come now, Chloe, I’m not stupid.  You’re clearly going to meet a man, otherwise you wouldn’t have packed your expensive scanties and…” she peered into the case. “…not much else.”  She twirled Chloe’s panties around her index finger.  “Who is he?”

Chloe stared at the rotating underwear and gulped.  “I’d…rather not say.”

“You got something to hide?”

“Not really, I just…I want to keep it to myself.”

Lana tilted her head and gave her a condescending look.  “Wow.  Are you that ashamed of him that you’d not even mention to anyone that you’re dating?  How sad.”

“I don’t have to explain my every move to you, Lana,” she snapped, annoyed.  “And I’m not ashamed of him at all.  We’re just…keeping things private.”

“I suppose you’d have to,” Lana mused.  “After all you wouldn’t want anyone to know that you’re fucking your best friend’s boyfriend, right?”

Chloe’s heart thudded to a stop.  “What?” she whispered.

“You heard me.”  Lana walked slowly towards her, and she backed away.  “You’ve been sleeping with Clark, haven’t you?”

“I…” she licked her lips nervously.  “I don’t know what you’re talking about—”

“Cut the bullshit, Chloe, I saw you!” she screamed, backing her all the way to the window and trapping her against it.  “This afternoon, just outside the dorm.  You bitch!”

Oh, shit.  “Lana—”

“You were kissing him!” she raged on.  “Squeezing his ass and draping yourself all over him like a cheap slut!”

Chloe bit her lip in desperation.  “Lana, please…let me explain—”

“Explain what?” Lana screamed, and to Chloe’s surprise she whipped a jagged rock out of her pocket and to her throat.  “How you and Clark laugh at me behind my back, or how it feels when he slides in and out of you, huh?  What exactly do you want to explain to me?”

“We haven’t…Clark and I…” she swallowed, feeling the pressure of the sharp edge against her windpipe from the slight action.  “We never made fun of you, Lana, and we haven’t actually had sex.  We decided to wait until you’d broken up.”

“So sleeping with my boyfriend is barred, but sucking his cock is alright?” she said, and laughed.  “You are so full of shit, Chloe.  I’ll never forgive you for this.”

“We didn’t mean to hurt you, I swear,” Chloe said helplessly as Lana pressed against her, causing her to lose her footing.  She slipped and tilted halfway out the window and still Lana held the sharp stone against her neck.

“You’re going to pay for this,” she breathed, and moved the stone to her cheek just below her eye.

Lana…” she gulped.  “Lana, I know you’re angry with us, but violence never solves anything.”

“Maybe not, but this will make me feel a whole lot better,” she drawled, increasing the pressure of the stone on her cheek.  “I should have known there was something going on between you two; all the lying and the secrets that he shares with you and nobody else, not even me.”

“He’s not hiding anything from you, Lana,” Chloe lied, and Lana shook her head.

“Exactly my point,” she said.  “Lying to protect him, as usual.  As for him not hiding anything from me, that’s a blatant lie.  You two have been at it for months, and he certainly didn’t tell me about that.”

Chloe said nothing, and Lana’s mouth tightened in a cruel line.  “I never stood a chance with him, not with you always half a step away,” she said bitterly.  “He always kept you close...”

Her hand tightened on the rock, and she whispered fiercely.  “…But by the time I’m done slicing your pretty face to ribbons, Clark will never look at you with lust in his eyes again.  No-one will.”

“Lana, please—!”

There was a rush of air and suddenly Lana’s wrist was encased in Clark’s hard grasp.  He yanked her away without letting go of her arm, and used his other hand to pull Chloe away from the window, shoving her behind him.

“Drop it,” he growled at Lana.

Never,” she spat.  “You lying, cheating bastard.”

A thick red welt appeared on Clark’s arm, and Chloe realised with a start that he’d been scratched and was even bleeding, though not profusely.  She stared closely at the object in Lana’s hand, and her eyes widened.  Nestled within the granite were marbled streaks of red, which glowed in Clark’s proximity.

Red kryptonite.

Thankfully Lana hadn’t noticed.  Chloe saw the veins on his hand bulge and react to the element, knew he had felt it too when she saw his hold on Lana’s wrist tighten.

“I said…” he went on menacingly.  “Drop it.”

He twisted Lana’s arm until her eyes narrowed in pain and her fingers unclenched, and the stone fell harmlessly to the floor.  Clark stepped back so that he was side by side with Chloe and wrapped his arm firmly around her waist.

“Are you okay?” he asked her gruffly.  “She didn’t hurt you, did she?”

Chloe nodded.  “No, I’m fine.”

Lana glared at both of them in open loathing before adopting a wounded expression.

“How could you, Clark?” she said her voice trembling and her big eyes pooling with tears.  “How could you cheat on me with her, of all people?” she pointed at Chloe in disdain, and Clark turned to her and flashed her a lazy grin.

“It was easy, actually,” he drawled, dropping his hand to cup and squeeze her bottom.  “Aside from the fact that Chloe’s got a killer ass, you really just…aren’t all that.  In and out of bed.”

Lana’s kicked-puppy look promptly disappeared.  “I suppose I should feel a little relieved that even with Chloe, you haven’t actually consummated your relationship,” she snarled.  “You obviously can’t perform.  I was beginning to think that our non-existent sex life was my fault.”

“It was,” he retorted.  “You were such a lousy lay that I was traumatised for months.  It was like trying to coax emotion out of a dead fish.  I felt nothing with you, and only when I got with Chloe did I realise exactly what lovemaking was truly supposed to be like.”

Lana gasped in disbelief, and her face contorted with rage.  “I hate you,” she shot back.  “Both of you.  You betrayed me, and you don’t even care!”

“Oh, stop acting like some self-righteous shrew, Lana,” Clark said, sounding bored.  “I’m pretty sure you haven’t exactly been faithful yourself, have you?”

She immediately stepped back, looking guarded.  “What exactly are you accusing me of?”

Chloe shrugged.  “Well, for starters, there’s that blow-job you gave Lex at the mansion.”

Lana froze and instantly paled.  “How did you—? I didn’t,” she said defensively.

Chloe raised a sardonic brow.  “Really?”

“You’re just saying that to make yourselves feel less guilty—”

“Oh, cut the crap, Lana, video footage doesn’t lie,” Chloe said, irritated.  “There’s surveillance all over that mausoleum.” She stifled a laugh.  “You were going at it really enthusiastically, I must say.”

Lana shook her head and looked like she was going to be sick.  “He promised me he’d disable the cameras in my room,” she whispered in a daze.

Chloe snorted and shook her head condescendingly.  “In your room, maybe.  Besides, you should know by now that you can’t ever trust a Luthor.”

Lana stiffened and clenched her tiny fists by her side.  Chloe glanced at the floor where the streaks of red in the rock was still glowing innocuously, and stepped forward to hide it from Lana’s view.

“Fact is, you’ve been giving it up to Lex for months,” Chloe said bluntly.  “So you have no right to accuse Clark of cheating when you’ve been doing exactly the same thing.”

“But I was…lonely,” she said defensively.  “Clark…you neglected me, you never touched me…”

“Honestly?” he said with a disinterested yawn.  “I really don’t care how we got here, but I’m glad everything’s out in the open.  I don’t want you, you don’t want me.  Problem solved.  Now, please fuck off so Chloe and I can have hot, sweaty sex together.”

Lana’s cheeks turned bright pink.  “You and I - we’re over.  Finished,” she grated.

Clark nodded and yawned.  “Yeah, I kinda figured that part out.  Door’s over there.”  He ushered her towards it and gave her a none-too-gentle shove, then slammed it behind her.

As soon as Lana was out of the room, he turned to Chloe and regarded her with a surly scowl.

“So, all this time you knew Lana was fucking Lex, and you never bothered to tell me?” he accused.  “I could have broken up with her ages ago, and you and I could have been banging like bunnies for a month!”

“I…didn’t know,” she confessed.

He frowned.  “But…the blow-job video footage…?”

She smiled.  “A ruse,” she admitted.  “She’s been spending so much time with Lex, and I see how they look at each other.  It wasn’t too much of a stretch to think that they’d been comparing more than just meteor rocks.  Speaking of which…”

She bent and picked up the large rock Lana had left behind.  “This is riddled with RedK, Clark,” she warned.

He nodded.  “Yeah, I felt that; it scratched my arm when I grabbed her,” he said, regarding the welt on his skin.  “Good thing, too; I was able to tell that self-righteous bitch everything I ever wanted to.”

“Well, good for you for finally standing up to her,” Chloe replied.  “Still, you’d better stay away from this to be on the safe side.”  She hurled the rock out of the window and turned back to Clark, expecting his usual, softer expression but was surprised to still see his lips curled in a cynical smile.

“Clark, are you alright?” she asked.  “How do you feel?”

 “Never better.”

“You don’t look better,” she said with a frown and touched his forehead.  “In fact you still look the same as you did before I tossed the rock.”

He shrugged.  “It’s probably in my blood stream. I’ll ride it out.”

“You don’t have to, we can find a way to neutralise it—”

No,” he said harshly.  “I’m done playing it safe.”

“But this stuff’s not good for you,” she argued.

He rolled his eyes.  “Only extended exposure, and I’m sure it won’t come to that.  Besides, I don’t want to hold back for our first time together.”

She frowned.  “Oh?”

“Well, we finally got what we wanted - Lana’s broken up with me,” he said with a huge grin, rubbing his hands together.  In a flash, he’d zipped towards her and picked up into his arms.  “And you know what that means, don’t you?”

“We can finally…” she paused, not wanting to jinx it.  Clark pressed his forehead to hers and spoke.

“I have been aching for you for like, forever,” he said hoarsely.  “We’re going to the Farm right now, where I am going to make love to you in my bed, where you belong.”

Chloe swallowed and stared up him.  The naked hunger in his eyes made warmth tingle through her entire body.  She imagined him placing her gently on his bed, his firm body over hers, the thick ridge of his erection parting her soft folds and thrusting deep inside, driving her to unchartered heights…

Moisture pooled deep in her body, and Clark inhaled, clearly catching her intimate scent.  He groaned and his eyes flashed orange with arousal.

Chloe linked her arms around his neck and smiled up at him.

“Let’s do this.”
